YMCA Strong
Kids Campaign
April, 2007
This annual support campaign
is designed to raise funds for several of our youth programs. In
these difficult financial times, we all need to work together to
provide help and support to our youth - especially those who cannot
afford to pay for the following programs:
Summer
Camp Discovery -Scholarship assistance was provided for 58 youth
throught the summer.
Care
Packs - Each year the Y provides 125 kids in Kindergarten,
1st and 2nd grades with a YMCA backpack filled with needed school
supplies and a long-sleeved YMCA T-shirt. The school district establishes
need, and then those children are given the packs.
Before
and After School Care - 35 youth received financial assistance
in 2006. Care is provided for children in their home schools including
all the elementary schools in Freeport plus Carl Sandburg Middle
School. This allows parents to drop their child off early or leave
them at school until they can pick them up after work.
YMCA
Children's Center - 37 children recevied day care assistance.
Quality child care opportunities mean paretns can work to better
their lives.
Going
for the Gold - In 2006. 1.600 4th, 5th, and 6th graders attended
a free field trip to the YMCA and received nutritional information,
healthy activities and have a great time in the pool. For many children
participating in this program is the first time they have ever been
in a swimming pool. Going for the Gold is totally subsidized by
the Strong Kids Campaign.
Youth
Programs and Scholarships - Over $114,000 in was given to children
and families in 2006. Scholarships were awarded for programs such
as Guides, Blue Fins Swim Team, Youth Sports, Swim Lessons, and
fitness and recreational activities. Funds received from our Strong
Kids Campaign provide any youth needing financial assistance the
opportunity to participate in these fun activities.
